Why should I whiten my teeth?
Studies have shown that not only do people who have whiter teeth look younger than people who don't, but that there is a correlation between high self-esteem and a white, confidant smile. In addition to the aesthetic reasons, it is also true those persons who have whitened their teeth: Develop a greater awareness of their teeth and become more compliant with their oral hygiene routine, including daily care and routine professional cleanings. Are more open to additional cosmetic dental procedures including replacing restorations and crowns and considering veneers. Typically have healthier gums and fresher breath.
Can teeth whitening hurt enamel?
No adverse effects to the tooth enamel have been shown in studies of professional teeth whitening. Our whitening gels have been used by dentists for years, and have been proven safe. Those with very little or no enamel are not advised to get their teeth whitened.
Can anyone have his or her teeth whitened?
Almost anyone can have his or her teeth whitened. You should not use the products if you are under 14 years of age, pregnant; suspect you may be pregnant or nursing. If you have braces, loose teeth, loose fillings, cavities or gum disease, we would recommend that you see a dentist to resolve any dental health issues before whitening. If you are allergic to carbamide or hydrogen peroxide, propylene glycol, latex, glycerine or artificial flavoring, we would not recommend the service.
How does this system work?
The process is a system that combines a unique gel formula that when applied to the teeth breaks down into water and ions working with the activating LED cool blue light. The ions work their way through the dentinal tubules and into the tooth, effectively breaking the stains apart. Effective results in 20 minutes with the stains removed will make teeth appear whiter and brighter!
How long will the results last?
Results will last from 6 months to a year (maybe more) depending on your oral hygiene. If you drink coffee, tea, red wine, or smoke, you may need more frequent follow-ups. We also offer for sale the whitening touch up pens to use after your treatment to keep your smile bright!
What causes tooth discoloration?
There are many reasons for discolored teeth. Aging and the on-going ingestion of coffee, tea, cola, red wine, tobacco products, curries, etc., can lead to the staining of the teeth. The ingestion of tetracycline and excessive fluoride frequently causes such severe staining that extended treatment lengths and perhaps more aggressive means may be required. Traumatized and non-vital teeth that are discolored can also be whitened, but usually require a more invasive procedure performed by a dentist.
What are the adverse effects?
Very few people experience adverse effects from their teeth whitening treatment. A small percentage may feel a little sensitivity during or after the whitening procedure. This will typically disappear within 24 - 48 hours with no long lasting effects. Applying desensitizing toothpaste or taking an aspirin or Tylenol should alleviate the minor discomfort.
Will everyone's teeth whiten?
Almost all healthy natural teeth will whiten. This system is to be used on healthy, live teeth and gums. The best results will be on teeth that have yellowed with age or are stained by coffee, tea, red wine etc. However all teeth are different and therefore the results will vary. Your teeth can only be whitened as far as your natural color will allow and cannot alter your genetic traits. The carbamide peroxide will not harm crowns, veneers and fillings but the effect will be very limited. Teeth that are stained by medicines or gray in color will also see minimal results from bleaching. Heavily stained teeth will most likely require multiple treatments.
